Life as unusual

I think it amusing to note that it has been overcast and threatening rain all day. It is finally no longer overcast, and it is pouring outside. I am intrigued. That said, I guess it's time for an update.

Brian started law school as well as teaching at Geneva this week. He LOVES law school, as if there were any question that he would. Thankfully, two of his professors have stressed multiple times that the student's spouses are not going to law school as well. Therefore they won't be interested in the finer points of their cases, nor will they appreciate being argued with for practice. I love his professors =). Brian is floating on clouds after two days of class, and cannot wait to finish his work so he can do his homework. He used to be excited to finish his work so he could spend time with me. Ah, how the tables turn =). For all my joking, though, I am so thankful it is so far what he had hoped. We will be sacrificing much, and I would hate for him to think he'd made a mistake. So far though, I don't think that's the case. I mean who WANTS to do homework?!

Emma is doing VERY well. I am convinced she grows inches during her naps. She is completely out of newborn outfits and diapers. She will be 7 weeks old tomorrow, and is a much happier baby than in the first two or three weeks. She has even started cooing, and loves to smile at everyone.She did have her first run in with a fire ant, though I am not sure if it was last night or yesterday evening. I was looking at her hand today and I realized there were at least 8 fire ant bites. I wanted to cry, and I am currently working on tracking the ant down. He will pay. All in all, she is doing great, and Brian and I are so very thankful. Unfortunately, I dont have too many pictures to share. But here are a few just the same. I promise I will try to take more, but I've been busy. It's amazing how messy a house can get when only two big people and one little person live in it. Maybe it's all Leo's fault. Anyway, here you go...


I had just gotten finished pulling her blankets off, calling her name, making lots of noise, and patting her back. It should also be noted that she had been asleep almost 8 hours...Ah, to be able to sleep like that again.

As you can see, Leo has it VERY hard. Man. Forget wanting to sleep like Emma. I want to be able to sleep like Leo. Except for maybe not all contorted like that. I think I would end up in the hospital if I got all folded up like that.

Asheville and other things

Well, last week my hubby suggested we take a trip this weekend before everything starts up. Everything being Law School on Monday and Geneva starting back a week from Monday. He had to twist my arm, but I finally agreed to go out of town. It was so hard for me =). So we loaded up the car and headed up for Emma's first weekend away from home. It was wonderfully pleasant. At first I felt bad, because we mostly hung out at the hotel and just goofed off. But sometime yesterday I realized that it felt great not to have the phone ringing off the hook, and not to have to worry about dishes and laundry. I was able to...relax. For the first time since Emma was born,I talked on the phone only three times in three days. I didn't even have to charge my phone!! So you get the point. We walked around the city a lot, and ate yummy food which I think made my baby feel sick. Ah well, it couldn't be perfect. All in all, it was a fun trip. We had a relaxing drive home, and now we are back. Alas, back to the real world.

Tummy Time

I thought I would try out the little play mat today for Emma. She could take or leave it, but she looked really cute trying to eat her arm. Maybe we'll give it a few more weeks before we try the mat again.

Looking around

I was letting Emma look at a rattle and she started smiling at it. So I grabbed the camera and waited for another one...it never came, but these were some cute pics I got while waiting. Is she not the cutest child ever? (I know I am slightly biased...)

It's been a while

So sorry to Emma's adoring public for the long silence. A lot has been happening around here, and I hadn't had time to update you on my cute little girl.

Emma has been doing wonderfully, though unfortunately has a little acne right now. At her first doctor's appt., she weighed 6lbs 15oz, which was only down 2 oz. from her birth weight. At her second doctor's appt., she was already up to 8lbs 4.5oz., so she is growing wonderfully. She had also already grown an inch! I think she is also going through a growth spurt right now, so she seems to be growing like a weed. We are very thankful for her good health and growth. Both are very encouraging to Brian and me. She has also started smiling at us! She gave my dad a HUGE smile about a week ago, and every once in a while since then we can coax one out of her. She is having a wonderful time exploring her new world, and loves to look around.

Brian has been so busy with work lately. We realized last night that he literally has not had a break since Emma was born. When he comes home on Friday, he spends time with us, but he works all day Saturday. We are so thankful for the work though, so we really cannot complain. It will just be nice if someday he doesn't have to be gone all the time.
